Summary

It’s about the masks we all have to hide all of our vulnerabilities and pain, all of the masks we use to not let anyone see that we are in pain or simply that we are human. To begin with, the entire poem was just the first five lines.

Silent cries

Behind dry eyes

When no one can find the truth in the lies

Silent cries of unseen tears

Flow from pain built op over years

Hide it away

And there it shall stay

Bottled up inside

Stinging like peroxide

Hide it in your heart

Just let it tear you apart

Killing you like cancer

That's apparently the answer

Why?

I ask

Why do you wear this mask?

Behind a mask

A face turns grey

Beauty atrophies

And just fades away

Each heartache

Turns into a scar

Why let that become whoyou are?

Lift the veil

And let your imperfect face breathe

Then you might see

What it's like to be free

Don't be afraid

Just show yourself

And put your mask

Up on the shelf

----------------------------

I'm proud to be human. If you cut me I bleed, and there is nothing wrong with that.

I will never lie about who I am

I will never put on a mask.

They are unhealthy and they are hurtful,

far more hurtful then simply dealing with pain.

A bottle might work for some,

But ask yourself,

Could this not also work?
