I stare up at the cerulean sky,
Punctuated by whispered clouds.
The dry grass traps me in my mind.
Not able to stand, for standing requires want,
And at this point, I want nothing but to lie.
Lie beneath the night's counterpart.
Beneath the shroud of the Gods.
Beneath the Savannah sun.
Dreaming of another world.
Past the tumultuous land of the humans.
Past the furthest reaches of the moon.

When what should I hear,
What should I see,
But a leopard cub, staggering to me.

The babe saunters towards me,
With a look of innocence in it's eyes.
And I cannot help but stare.
Stare at the cub.
And stare at it's future.

A predator of the Savannah.
Hunter and scavenger.
Devouring the weak.
And yet, how could something so small
Be capable of such anger.
Such malice and venom.
An instinct, perhaps.
But, no. A skill.
Learnt from it's mother.
It's Mother.
It's mother looking for it now.

It may one day, grow to be violent,
But for now, as I was, as I am,
It is small, it is weak, it is cared for.
And it, like me, depends on someone.
And as it depends on it's mother,
Thus, I depend on my world.
I have never found anybody.
Nobody willing to give me,
What this cubs mother,
Would grant her child.
No one to shape me.
No one to guide me.
And no one to love me.

But, the cub tells me otherwise.
Certainly, if it can have someone,
So too can I.
I may not have the attractive demeanor of
Said cub, but I have other qualities.
If such a weak thing can have care,
Then such a weak thing as I,
Could find it too.

I have learnt more of this world,
From the cub,
Than from anyone, any place, any part of my life.
I owe my life to this cub.
And I hope one day, as the cub will.
I will be strong too.
