The daily trials of shapeshifters.

"Red shoes with the white dress, all Lolita-like," River asked in a girl's voice, "or blue Levi overalls and that little blue baseball cap," River asked in a boy's voice.

"'Yes?'" Sam the goldfish said/kinda asked. "The role can go either sex, so long you don't, you know, sex it up, River."

"Aw," River pouted in a sultry teenage female's voice, "but I really want this role, Sammy-poo."

"Yeah..." Sam said, swimming around in his clear gallon-jug of a bowl. "I wish you'd just make up your mind, flip a coin, something."

"Sammm," River said in a mock offended, young adult male's voice, "that's o-fin-sive." The shapeshifter smiled.

"Hah. Hah. And hah." Sam replied. "Now you're making bestiality jokes at my expense."

"No, seriously, Sam," River pleaded. "I have so many choices! And I didn't bring any dice, for a..." River smiled again. "Change?"

"Poseidon, save me from these horrible puns..."

River laughed in a sweet, teenager-girl-in-love way that always worked to ease offense. "Sam," River said, "you should--"

"Wait," Sam stopped the shapeshifter. "Someone's coming. Hurry up quick!"

"Oh oh oh!" River stood up, paced around in a small circle once, then decided.

When the Director-playwright opened the door, he found a prepubescent girl with golden locks of hair so blonde it seemed silver, still getting dressed.

"Manager!" River said in a sweet, surprised voice. "You surprised me!"

"Ohshit," the manager swore and looked away, closing the door behind him. "Sorry! I should have knocked, little Miss."

"It's fine, Mister Sandoville," River called back. "I've just never tried on such a complex dress before! Can I please have five more minutes? Please?"

The Director cleared his throat. "Yes! Of course!" he called from the other side of the door. "Five minutes, and no more, Miss River. Your audition for the part of Sandy awaits you. Do your best, dear!"

After the Director had gone, River released their form with a sigh. "Oh my," River told Sam. "That's a little harder than I expected to hold." River looked at their dress, which, in truth, they'd never tried on. "Maybe you should take this one, Sam?"

"Pass," Sam said, blowing a few idle bubbles. "Besides, I'm doing the Dumb Animal Tricks segment, remember? The schedules may overlap."

"Aww..." River said, back into the prepubescent girl form, thumb to her lips, pouting at Sam.

"No. Nope. Nope. No way, River," Sam said. "That hasn't worked since the days of Shakespeare. At least not on me."

"Three minutes, Miss River!" someone shouted.

"Oh, this fickle Muse," River said with a small smile. "'Tis the way the creative water flows, I suppose."

"Break a leg," Sam advised River. "Actually, no, really, it'd help your stage cred if you actually did break a leg for a, hm...change?"

River laughed girl-Sandy's innocent laugh. "Humor still becomes you, dear Sam," River told Sam. "And I must become my best, quite well and soon, or else we'll starve, again."

Whiskey Charlie

Jack, Jack, you're posting 'em faster than I can read 'em, and I have to admit that this one leaves me confused.

How can I help? What didn't transmit with clarity, Whiskey? Errors in clarity I need to make sure I do not make.

Let me get back to you later, Jack. I'm in overload at the moment.

Talking to you about this makes more sense, but it is confusing w/o talking.
