I wrote a tale just the other night
While dreaming thoughts to my delight
With stir I found with haunted fright
That every word was written right!

And as I wrote the words came out
Began to fuss began to shout
They begged and pleaded "Put me back!"
Dragged out of thoughtful, hopeful black

And put instead, to work on page
To rhyme, to sing, to dance in cage
And entertain, a tired show
That dims the lights to a certain low

That makes us feel a bit unease
A bit off edge, a tiny squeeze
That grips our tongues and won't let go
We say the words which no one knows

In turn, remorse, it fills our head
To make us wish our words were dead
And wander mute, no faith or hope
We spilled our inks so we could cope

And stand in silence through the land
To come inside, for those who can
And those who don't just prim and preem
And drift away to lands of dream
