Fetid Self Image

In this stone cavern, Dear Sir or Madam; you’ll discover
only tears, a stink of piss, and a dull thumping...
Quasimodo smashing himself senseless against the
grey limestone, ancient gothic walls of Notre Dame.
From his bell tower, he grimaces through a window.
Two hundred feet below, Gypsy Kings throng around
sparking Esmeralda, with plastic earrings as gifts for her...
here however... the monster sobs over his make-believe princess,
his sweet imaginary friend/
She always refuses to notice him, even when
Quasimodo jumps to bow at her feet,
a fetid self image reflected on the icy Parisian pavement,
before the crunch of his desperate body on rock.
