If you knew..
how after I send a text
I freak because it sounded wrong,
how many times I listened to messages
I send you, to see if I sound happy in them.
how many nights went by before I could
actually sleep soundly, without you.

If you knew..
that I still cry from time to time.
I even laugh at "yesterday" with you.
that I wonder if you wonder about me.
that I have letters you will never see.

If you knew..
no matter what, you seem fictional.
that you weren't real, anymore.
a thing I imagined, or dreamed..

If you only knew..
that outlook doesn't help me forget.
Wild flowers, first kisses, last kisses..
music I have never heard screams you, to me.
Goodbye is always weak, for me..

If you only knew..
that I know, you know all of this...
and, that's what is most alarming..
you know all the 'pain' I go through..
And, can't tell me..

If you knew..
if you were going to keep me..
or, if what I said is true..
'Everything will be different, in the morning."
