Chapter 1

Dear Diary,

Today, me (Astrid) my Husband (Hammond) my Daughter (Thora) and many more Vikings got on our terrifying, wooden Long boat, which we have been crafting for years,to sail for better land.

Thora, who was only five, kept on asking annoying questions. (Such as...Are we there yet?) I kept on saying no. On the fifteenth time she asked I yelled no!

About five minuets later I felt bad, so I apologized to her. She looked at me and laughed, then said I was a bit silly. I could hear the chants of the oarsmen.

Somehow that nightI slept like a baby.

Dear Diary,

Today was very tiring. First of all I had to chase Thora around most of the ship because she stole my other shoe! Then Hammond lost his Axe! Then I had play Hide and seek with Thora! Then she fell over and got a splinter! And now I am trying to write with Thora shouting me...Again!

Dear Diary,

Today was alot less tiring. The only problem was Thora climbing and nearly falling into the water!

I hope I can sleep at night still after today with Thora.

Dear Diary,

Today Hammond caught  a cold so I had to do his duties! I was so tired I could have died! Thora was no help at all. I am half asleep right now, and its only evening!

Thora was sat on my lap as I told her an ancient Viking Saga to help her get to sleep.

Finally after two whole Viking Sagas she fell asleep.

Dear Diary,

I was filled with happiness for we spotted...Land! Yes actual land!

For the first time I slept peacfully.

Dear Diary,

It took a whole week to reach the land! We were still thrilled during that week!

Dear Diary,

We almost  crashed...Luckily Hammond woke up in time!

I explained to Thora that we would bethrowing a Huge celebration to celebrate our settlement on land.

I told Hammond to keep away from the beer and mead!

Dear Diary,

I had to have a  firm talk with Hammond Again for drinking Alot of beer and mead!

Dear Diary,

Hammond set out to gather wood seeing as the few settlers that had been here long before us clearly hated us! Well I hate them to!

Later that night Hammond finally came back. We all set to work building our house. Some of the other Vikings from the long  boat helped us.

Dear Diary,

Today  we finished our house! Thora was still asleep! Well I guess in a way it's a positive thing.

When Thora finally woke up she went to play out.

About two hours later  she came in crying her eyes out. She said some of the older children from the hating village had pushed her in the stream and then they punched her and kicked her! I Turned red in rage! Even Hammond knew he should shrink back. I marched over to them and did exactly what they did to my daughter! Obviously they cried!

Dear Diary,

Today was very scary indeed. Hammond had to go and help the villagers protect the village from a gang of Saxons,as we later learnt they were called.

Luckily Hammonds Stigas (a type of viking march) scared them away....And to make it even more funny they left the Swords and Shields...so its bye bye village for them!

Dear Diary,

Today we mourned for my Father for he was poisoned by Saxons! I was fuming!I told Hammond to go get those smelly rats! Thora, who had adored her Grandfathers Sagas and legends, was still weeping.

I covered Thoras face as Hammond came back with the head of the Saxon responsible for my Faters loss.

She peaked through my hands and wimpered. I gave a look at Hammond and he took the head somwhere horrible.
