WOUNDED CHILD

My father is in prison

My mother is on welfare

I am just a child without a reason

My home, my security is no longer there

My clothes have outgrown me and so has my joy

Whatever happened to all of my toys

My shoes are too tight and my teeth are crooked

I feel orphaned, unloved and horribly stupid

School after school, home after home

I am just a child who misses her parents

Too young to feel so all alone

I need something to share in

I miss my old bedroom all pretty in pink

Calling for mommy to bring me a drink

Backrubs from daddy while tucking me in

Playing a game they always let me win

Hugs in the morning and kisses at night

Dinner and ice cream then a walk through the park

They were never far from my sight

Now all I have is a fear of the dark

Why didn't they love me hard enough to not fight with each other

When I have a child I will be so much stronger

Be kind to the person you love, rise above

Before it's too late and push comes to shove
