The phone shrill woke me with a start. Head pounding, heart racing. Eyes sealed shut from blissful sleep. Private number once again. I grab the phone and bounce it off the ground. This is starting to annoy me. I am fearless but the caller is either a bad stalker or a secret admirer. I have said Hello so many times to no answer. It is a clear case of cold feet. A stalker would have more guts. I smile thinking how he tries to get so far but trips at the last hurdle. Maybe I should say more but I am not going to play games. I know he's shy and I know he is reaching out. The phone disconnects and takes my questions with it. I refuse to make this easy because I am not a toy. I want to see him push his luck and try harder. The blankets warm my anger and I fall deeper into sleep again. My heart slows and my head calms. A rush of good feeling holds me. My dreams pull me in and sleep hits. Another day another dial.
