RAINS COMING LATE

I.

My Ballardong Clan says –

when clouds as

snaked-belied scales

scurry inland –

rain in three days.

II.

Bullfrog chorus builds.

Adolescent egret stalks

the billabong.

‘Old Man Croc’ stalks

the egret.

Ballardong man stalk

the Croc.

III.

Caution joggers!

Walkers, beware the bombard!

Black Cockatoos

in squadron strength

invade the pine plantations.

They are the raucous,

seed cracking,

cone dropping heralds

of our storms.

  IV.

Storm clouds -

black backdrop behind the hills -

silhouette the egret in its flight.

V.

Deluge.
