I wrote this poem while listening to the song Hero of War by Rise Against

"A hero of war
Yeah that's what I'll be
And when I come home
They'll be damn proud of me
I'll carry this flag
To the grave if I must
Because it's a flag that I love
And a flag that I trust"

The war that I fight is not over seas
The war that I fight is for the least of these
The war that I fight is not against terrorist
The war that I fight is to clear away the mist

The flag that I bare is stripped and torn
The flag that I bare is for those who mourn
The flag that I bare is one I adore
The flag that I bare is one to soar

The coat that I wear is one of our pain
The coat that I wear is soaked by the rain
The coat that I wear is a reminder to me
The coat that I wear is one they will see

The stand that I take is against those fake
The stand that I take is for our own sake
The stand that I take is one to be made
The stand that I take is not done when I fade

The gun that I hold is for me to defend
The gun that I hold is protecting my friends
The gun that I hold is a right I own
The gun that I hold is ought to be shown

The God that I love is caring for us all
The God that I love is seeing us fall
The God that I love is hearing our prayers
The God that I love is healing our fears

The death that I die is one I will fight
The death that I die is going to be right
The death that I die is not yet the end
The death that I die is fuel to my friends

The war that I fight is for that which is right
