Status: Finished  |  Genre: Fantasy  |  House: Booksie Classic

I am writing a graphic novel as an end of year art final for school. I have a general idea of f the story but I'm struggling with the plot.

The story revolves around a boy named Chen. He has a Wild imagination. However, the oppressive city he lives in restricts any form of creativity. The conditions are similar to north Korea. If he challenge society's views and values he will be put in prison where they will brainwash him to be mindless, or lack the ability to imagine. I want to illustrate this city and its people monochromatically, to reflect the dull and monotonous lifestyle. Everybody in this society is against him. Even his parents.

When Chen was younger, the only other person who ever imagined was his uncle.he told Chen about a world that was full of colour, unlike their current. He inspired Chen to be imaginative and hopeful to one day find this world in colour. However, chen's uncle was taken away by authority and Chen hadn't seen him since. Chen's parents remind him not to turn out like his uncle.

For the plot, I'm thinking that Chen either:
a) Is involved in a tragic accident which puts him into a coma. During the coma he is able to dream of this world in colour. He is able to make happen whatever his imagination desires. Through this he experiences fulfillment. However the more he imagines, the more likely The authority can sense this, and they'll try to stop him. It is also possible that he tries to look for his uncle in this dream. Either finding an illusion of him which disappears or a Spirit which tells him what is happening. Depending what happens, Chen will either be liberated from regret (knowing what happened to his uncle), or he will be despaired, left with unanswered questions.

B) challenges society, gets himself caught by the authority and tries to find what happened to his uncle. The story must involve stone form of fantasy, as that it's the subject matter I'm exploring. I haven't figured out any other possible options as of yet. Please help me develop these ideas! Our if you have a better idea, your input is highly appreciated.

For the ending, assuming Chen took option A, he will eventually pass away. But he will be liberated from society's oppressive ruling. In the final scene he will have a smile on his face as his heart stops beating, knowing he is free at last.

Or B, Chen finds his uncle, but in a completely altered mental state and personality. Not the uncle he once knew.

That's all the ideas I have come up with so far. I want to make this story good I don't think I'm the best writer, so I came here for your help. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I really appreciate it.

I like the idea of B!!
I tend to write about a dystopian type of setting, but I'm thinking that after I finish the novel I have started publishing chapters on here for, I'm gonna write about a utopia and add in a rebellion.
I like reading stories about rebellion and going against society and making a difference and such. If you find a way to put it on booksie for people to read, let me know and i will read it! :)

Idea A sounds like, if executed properly, could be phenomenal! I would go with that one because the fantasy element could be pulled of in a more believable way. I wish you the best of luck on this endeavor!
