Something I submitted to Creative Communications a while back and got published on its own page. I think it took me 15 minutes to write. Meh. I still get annoying emails about it, too.

I can't remember what the official name for this rhyming pattern is, so I'm just gonna say it's got a cool rhyming pattern. I even made a tune for it. Not that I remember what the tune is.

Enjoy the pretty colors. (:

Will I hear the trumpets sound another day?

Will I see another dawn, one sun’s bright ray?

Nay, all that’s left is black and red

This war far too much blood has shed.

And still we’re left here on our knees to pray.

I hear that trumpet sounding out the warning.

It’s announcing battle, not the morning.

Some hope did lead us to believe

But sometimes hope does truth deceive.

We are lost, we soldiers, we in mourning.

Honor, fame, they seemed so grand

Until I stood upon this land

Where we are left in endless night

By these gates where we do fight.

Here, we soldiers, brothers, here we stand.
