dreaming of make-believe lands ..... lost in reality ....

And when I sit my desk

Or queue at the bank

Or grocery store

Or wait for the tram

Am I there….

….this young woman

…Living this ‘normal’ life?

Externally, yes

Internally, no

For those around

Have no idea

Of where my thoughts

They go

For I am far away

In lands they can’t imagine

Where dreamers dream the wildest dreams

And life is shining in obscure

And enchanting light

Where princesses reign

And dragons are slayed

By heroes and white knights

Where rivers are red and pink and mauve

And angels are present to guard

All the gemstones and treasures

Yes that is where I am

For ever in that place

In painful yearning

That it’s only make believe

Only ever make believe

And am I ridiculous, childlike and mad

To fancy all this to be ideal

Or is it that I was born with a heart

That nobody else here can feel

So when I am passing through

Each life phase, trying to make it

As best I can

Remember the real things I’m dreaming

So far from the truth of what’s here

And maybe one day if the angels are kind

They’ll send me some place like that

And then I will smile to have found my ‘home’

And peace and joy and love and warmth

And then all this will seem like a passing phase

I had to go through in order to get to this place

Where everyone else thinks just as I do

And I am no longer alone

No longer pretending to be what I’m not

No longer in search of my ‘home’
