father to daughter advice

My little girl

I hate to see

The way the world’s unkind

I hate to think there’ll come a day

I’m forced to leave you behind

I do not know just how you’ll cope

This world is dark and cold

And if I could, I’d just stop time

And keep from getting old

So that I may stay and keep you safe

And warm and loved and guarded

To stop the chance of any pains

You’ll feel from being discarded

I’d walk with you and hold your hand

And keep your dreams alive

And when you fall and stumble

I’d be there to revive

Your weary heart and mind

And keep you going strong

I’d make sure that you always felt

A place where you belong

But sad truth is my little girl

I will not always be here

And as you’re learning fast and hard

The world’s a tough place to be dear

But keep your eyes shining

Don’t despair

Remember to hold your head high

And if it all gets way too much

Please don’t ever be ashamed to cry

As long as you keep on walking

As long as you feel that I’m there

I want you to carry on dreaming

Just as though you don’t have a care

For life will be a struggle sometimes

And it will surely try to defeat you

But remember you’re loved and will always be

And nothing, but nothing, can beat you
