THE LIGHT IN YOU

by Janis Ordonez

You were standing in the light,
so pure and free of inhibition
while the rhythm of your soul
begged to come into mine.

I'm always watching in the dark,
in the blur of nameless faces;
I could almost see inside
the promises waiting in time.

I was lost in a world
that was never mine;
and then slowly I felt I could shine,
shine inside the light you shared;
and then shine on my own
and now I see
this is how it's meant to be.

And here we are
drenched in the same light,
dreaming of what they couldn't see
was there all along,
waiting to be born,
waiting to come free.
