Decided to upload this as a change of topics of what I normally write. Apologies if I selected the wrong Genre. As always I enjoy constructive criticism and, of course, enjoy.

Going Home Proud

Proud

He stood, dressed for battle.

Uniform neatly worn,

Rifle in his hands,

He stood at attention

Ready to make his country safe.

Proud

He flew to war

With his brothers at his side.

He went on his way to face the enemy.

Scared, nervous, but ready to protect those he love.

Proud

He battled, not as a mad killer

but as a soldier, mourning the death

of his fellow man,

but willing to do what was needed

to help his homeland.

Proud

He went home

After four years away.

A one way ticket back to his country

Courtest of an IED concealed in his truck.

Proud

He was buried.

His brothers-in-arms and family wept around him

as he was placed in the ground.

He died in battle, not as a monster of war, but a soldier.

Proud

He lived a soldier of freedom

who put his own life at risk

for the welfare of his country.

He died the same.

Proud until the end.
