Across the Endless Milky Way

She aborts herself with a mighty eloquence
Tossed star and crossed astray
Across the Endless Milky Way
From the corner of our eye galaxies pass us by
Her beauty was matched only by her brilliance
Lost in the endless vacuum of space
A star so very out of place. A tear running down her face
The worlds she harbors drift aimlessly around
Captured by her presence but too lost to ever be found
Cold and dead they are nothing more than specs
Like lumps of coal or how summertime sweat collects around our necks
Long ago they were her pearls of lima bean greens. Blue skies where birds did sing
Ice cap snows and ocean current flows
Seeds for trees that endlessly grow – these seeds that are sowed
Cold north wind and southern warmth breezes
Half of it melts and the other half freezes
Polar bears, rabbit hares the deer the ducks and the bees and frogs
Piglets play and Alligators sway in the midst of the bog with the fog
She had it all
One day a viral disease came forth spread easily by the breeze
This disease loved life so much it’s hug became a squeeze
Could it be believed? Without knowing, it choked and smoked all the forest and the trees
Destroyed the bears, the rabbits, the deer, ducks and bees
Does as it pleases. This disease loving life so much it’s hug become squeezes
When all the lima bean green was gone. All the blue skies and birds that sing disappear
No more ice cap snows or current flows – she can only watch with fear
What disease destroyed such beautiful land? Did it not understand?
This viral disease that spread as easily as a breeze was nothing more than
Man
Tonight she screams through the sky. A reminder to you and I
“Wish upon a star!” we say as she is totally blown away
And we sit staring across the horizon. The emotionless moon hangs low.
Saying nothing at all
The sky is darkened where she once lived. Long ago she wanted to give
Life. What begins must surely end. Right? Tonight let’s hope and pretend
Maybe we will not turn out this way? “Wish upon a star”, we say -
Tossed away and crossed astray
Across the Endless Milky Way
