As he eased into his bed, his mind raced like never before. Thoughts rapidly devoured him. Consumed him.

No, he felt as if an anaconda was wrapped around him.

No, a firefighter squeezed him with the Jaws of Life.

No, he was crushed in the palm of the colossal King Kong.

Wrong, the grip was stronger than even that. It felt like…her.

What made her grip stronger was that her spirit held him as well. A supernatural force stronger than any beast or man-made machine. It’s only right, the feeling of her embrace brought on thoughts of her.

He reflected on the time she cried on his shoulder. The time she revealed she cherished him. Even the time she jumped on his back, and he carried her across the city to her house. She then hugged him and demanded he call her when he returned home. He smiled then walked back across the city to his car and drove home.

Wait.

He couldn’t remember calling her. Was she worried? How long had it been since he left her house? Where did he leave his phone?

He tried to reach his pocket but felt his arm was rigid, stiff; his arm disobeyed his brain as a teen disobeys their parent. No worries, he was obviously in a dream. All he had to do was wake up. He’d be able to move his arm once he awoke.

He forced his eyes open, but a blinding light was all that awaited him. He still felt constricted. Then a release. His vision returned and he saw across a great distance that she was embracing another man. It was no ordinary embrace. It reminded him of the way she embraced him with such a powerful love. How could she? Right in front of him. His sights were set on nothing but this man and the woman he treasured.

Filled with jealousy and rage, he moved towards her. Ready to unleash his wrath upon her. As he neared her, an uneasy feeling rushed over him. The man she embraced was lying down peacefully now in earshot. Nearing them, he could hear her sobbing. Just feet away he noticed her shaking. His anger switched to confusion. Now even closer, he could see her tears. She walked away feebly, overflowing with tears from the bed the man lay on. He couldn't tear his eyes away from the man in the bed.

But it wasn't a bed at all.

It was a casket.

The man in the casket was he.
