There's so much in life that's out of our hands,
so little that we understand.
Yet we march along, not knowing how strong,
not knowing how much we can stand.
The ups and the downs of life all around,
they show us how little we've planned.
Our dreams are so big, our power so meek,
are we truly so weak?
In all that I do, I must cue,
from other's outside of myself.
I wander through life,
through pain and through strife;
that means so little it's true.
I try to control every tick of the clock,
every second that passes me by.
I don't make a dent in the power that's spent,
just keeping me alive.
I want to control, I need to control,
each turn of the hand in my world.
What is given today, might be taken away,
if I do not stand steadfastly by.
Yet I know this is false, as I'm writing it now;
these words only in part are true.
We don't know the strength that's in our own hand,
the power that flows from above.
Yet it is we, on bended knee,
who control how much we can stand.
The power of faith, given in grace,
controls the strongest of storms.
If I can only believe, I can then receive,
the strength to relinquish control;
to live the dreams, not conceived of a feeble human mind,
but born from above, and given in love.
In trusted to a life meant divine.
When we relinquish control, we are taking control of all that holds us back.
Saying, 'Today I will not be held at bey,
by the fear of strength I might lack'.
Instead I'll be strong, controlling my song,
to the one from whom all powers born.
In light, and in life, I shall no longer fight,
to find the strength to control;
only to live, and to give freely of the gifts given to me,
by the one who enlightens my soul.
I want no control.
