A poem I wrote about leaving a love interest behind as you move on with your life. Dedicated to a former teacher of mine. I had a huge crush on him for a year, but obviously couldn't tell him how I felt. This pretty much sums up the whole experience.

How could this have happened to me?

I keep thinking of us, and all we could be

My feelings for you are driving me out of control

Feels just like I'm selling my soul

I'm not used to feeling like this

Sudden urges which are hard to resist

I hate you one day, then love you the next

My emotions are a confused mess

You smile at me, and I look away

It's like a silly game we play

Sometimes it's a crush, sometimes it's more

Sometimes I hate, sometimes I adore

I think of you when we're not together

Wondering if I'll feel like this forever

At the back of my mind, I have my doubts

I know our time is running out

The months fly by, and now it's the end

It's finally sinking in, I won't see you again

I want to approach you, but I'm too shy

And so I leave you behind without even saying goodbye
