I have come a long way in my life. But anyone who battles personal demons of any kind, knows they are never far away, waiting to feast on you in a moment of weakness. It can make you question your worth as a person.

Standing on the shore,
Staring out across the endless sea.
Dark clouds hover low
So that Earth and sky are one.
The wind stirs,
Trees sway and waves crash.
Lightning streaks,
Splitting the darkness
With flashes of light.
The rain begins.
Icy drops of water
Chill me as the wind
Cuts through my body.
The storm knows not of me.
Unbothered by my presence,
It rages on.
I feel its anger and fury.
The rain falls hard,
Soaking my very being.
I feel the rage of the storm
Throughout my body.
Sudden calm and clarity overtake me,
But are quickly pushed away
By uncontrollable anger.
Falling to my knees,
I open my arms to the sky.
I welcome the madness
Of the raging storm.
I accept it into me
Such that I am one with the storm.
I challenge the mighty beast
To take me.
Strike me down
If it should be.
Drown me with your rain.
Crush me with your waves.
Strike me with your lightning.
Sweep me away with your wind.
Kill me if I do not deserve
This life that I live.
I swear before this
Angry instrument of God
That I will go without fear.
Kill me if I am wrong.
Kill me if it should be.
Kill me.
