There are many different kinds of bullying indirect, verbal, physical, and cyber bullying. Victims of bullying suffer many effects, bullying can cause physical scarring, emotional issues, and psychological problems that could last for a long time. Nobody ever wants to be bullied and no one deserves it. It is estimated that about 160,000 children miss school every day due to fear of being attacked or intimidation by other students. When bullying or being bullied it can 91% of the time affect the victim’s self-esteem and their emotional well-being. As days, years, and months go by the number of bullying’s, suicides, and bullying related homicides rise to the top of the chart and bullying gets even more serious than it was once known for.

Bullying is increasingly seen as a problem in the United States and the consequences of bullying are proven to be real. It can be addressed under civil law or criminal law based on the situation. It is reported that bullying is a factor in two-thirds of 37 shootings reviewed by the U.S Secret Service. Harassment is a crime under the criminal code, and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Defamatory libel is punishable up to five years in prison. Defamatory is where a person causes harm to someone’s reputation with false information also known as slander. Depending on the state and applicable laws, certain kinds of bullying and situations can range anywhere from civil penalties, jail time, felonies, school intervention such as suspension, and expulsion.

Recent studies and reports by William Copeland and other places like the Great Smokey Mountains showed that young adults who were bullied as children are most likely to have long term mental health problems such as anxiety disorder, depression and panic disorders. Other studies show that 86% of people are more likely to turn to lethal violence because of bullying such as harming their selves or harming others. 10% of people are left to none other than to drop out of school orderly to try and escape the torment. Victims of bullying most likely feel disconnected from school, have nightmares, lower attendance, feel lonely, and in extreme cases have a higher risk of suicide. It is estimated that between 15 and 25 children commit suicide every year alone because of being bullied but bullying alone doesn’t cause suicide, depression is one of the main reasons by which it is brought on by bullying.

Bullies don’t know that bullying can impact their victims dramatically and traumatically until it’s too late and they’ve seen the damage they caused. A bully may project their own feelings of vulnerability onto their targets. Bullying is typically repetitive and enacted by those who are in a position of power over their victims. Most bystanders who see bullying being done don’t do anything, because of the fear of being bullied too or standing out of the crowd. Most people don’t know that it is okay to speak up and stand up for your fellow peers; standing up can change and make a difference in many people’s lives.

Compared to other types of bullies and more passive victims, bully-victims suffer more emotional stress than any other type of bully or victim. They also suffer more from anxiety, depression, and loneliness, as a result they may be at a greater risk of emotional problems including psychosis, substance abuse and anti-social personality disorder. Researchers have proven that kids who have been bullied extensively often respond aggressively and think it’s acceptable to carry weapons and bring them to school. Since 2007, over half of the 50 states have implemented some form of anti-bullying statute.

Victims of bullying are sometimes afraid to tell someone and speak up so they just endure the torment. If you are being bullied or you see someone getting bullied speak up don’t join in, you can set an example for others to follow by standing up for the victim and against bullying. Only good can come from standing up and speaking out. Bullying is never okay, you can seriously cause damage to someone’s personal view on things, and cause damage to their health/serious health problems. Studies show talking to kids, and teens about bullying and showing them what it’s like to be bullied/picked on can decrease the risk of bullying. If bullying is a major problem in your school, start an anti-bullying program, talk to people about it, and help stop the bullying.

Anyone is at risk for bullying, you can be “popular,” rich, poor, white, Hispanic, short, tall, older younger etc. Bullying is the most faced challenge for teens, children and even adults, bullying can happen in school, workplace, on the internet, at home. About every 90 minutes a teenager in the world takes their own life because they’ve had it and they think that’s the only option left to take. Bullying can change the way people act and talk, if you know someone that doesn’t act like they usually do, like they aren’t very social and they isolate themselves or they talk about hating life, calling themselves a loser, their friends jerks can be signs of being bullied.

Before people decide to bully someone they should ask themselves, would they want their siblings, friends, cousins, or any family member to go through what they’re about to put that person through? Do they want them to feel the way bullied kids do, feel lonely, abused, hurt, maybe even hated, feel like killing themselves or harming others is okay? Could they live with their self-knowing they may have ruined someone’s life or caused them to lose their will to live a second day? People should think and ask themselves those questions, because bullying is never right, if anyone feels the need to bully others, they need to talk to someone, don’t be afraid; if they follow down that bully road they can really do major damage and will have to face the consequences of their actions.

Eventually people are going to have to realize that at the end of everything clothes, money, houses, race, religion, or whatever doesn’t matter and won’t matter because were all just a white skeleton. As of right now, everyone is different we don’t all look alike on the outside, or have the same taste in things and stuff, we all have our own qualities and things that make us who we are. Some people aren’t going to like that but they don’t have to, and so what if they don’t approve or whatever that doesn’t give them or anyone else a right to bully another person. Who knows they might not share your qualities but you might turn out to like the things they do or enjoy the stuff they do. So instead of bullying befriend them and help others stop bullying by setting an example especially for children under the age of 14.

In the United States, between 5% and 8% of teenagers try to kill themselves every year. A researcher named Van Geel said “suicide is one of the most important reasons for adolescent mortality worldwide, schools should take every effort to reduce and prevent bullying.” As more and more researchers, and studies show, the damage from bullying and being bullied have long term effects and can be very serious. Even the consequences of bullying have become major to the laws and states. As studies show and tests continue it is very possible that bullying violence will continue to increase and increase over the years.
