Slowly Drowning Version 2

Poem by: JBrewer

Summary

I wrote 2 versions of this trying to get it just right. Still not sure if I am happy with it, I may have to try again.

When did I become that man,
standing all alone in the rain.
Wishing for there to be a place,
to forget all of my pain.
My clothes and shoes dripping wet,
a puddle beneath my feet.
My eyes slowly filling with tears,
that admit my awful defeat.
As the water continues to rise,
or maybe I just begin to fall.
I can feel the water touch my face,
and I start to remember it all.
I desperately try to pull myself out,
but I'm slowly sinking in.
I open my mouth to let out a yell,
but my mind starts to spin.
I gasp for breath and start to choke,
my chest hurts even more.
The water pushes and pulls me down,
my body has never been this sore.
I close my eyes, there is no scream,
so I let the water lay me to rest.
I forget the panic and all of the fears,
as the water tears at my chest.
My heart stops,
I'm drowning,
I'm drowning,
That's how I know it's love,
because my heart's been calling for you.
