The Birder is looking. What will he find?

At the edge of the forest a melodious chorus

Of woodpeckers, songbirds, and the occasional squirrel.

But the chorus ceased when they suspected a beast

Was invading their tranquil, woodland, world.

But it was just I, a naturalist guy,

Looking for a Bunting with camera in hand.

I've searched high and low with equipment in tow

But some things don't turn out, just as you planned.

It is a rare woodland Bunting that this guy is hunting

And I thought that I heard one, as I passed by.

My unpublished Bird-Guide has one picture, not applied,

And it's that Indigo Bunting, all secretive and shy.

Oh look, in that Tree! At long last, could it be?!?

The illusive Bunting, happily singing away.

I'll just power-up my Nikon, a few click and I'm done,

Then my publisher will have it by the end of the day.

Oh, what a wonderful age, digital is the rage,

No developing or printing need be applied.

I just point and shoot. --- Yet the point is now Moot

'cause I stepped on a twig. --- And the bird, --- it flied.

Perfect rhythm and rhyming, and wonderful imagery! A fun, bouncy piece.

Thanks! It was a fun write, even if I did have to rewrite seven times, LOL.

Isn't that always -- or nearly always -- the way. Nice rhythm to it.

Thanks. ... There are finches, Mockingbirds, Fee-bees, and many more that come to our birdbath each morning. They drink and bathe to their hearts delight, with never a mind as to what I'm doing, never, that is, until I pull out the camera. Then there is not a bird in sight. --- Oh Bother.
