I hear the Bagpipes playing,

Down the road and across the Glenn.

I hear the Bagpipes playing

Just for him, just for him.

He told his bonnie lassie

And his little laddie too

That he'd come home some day

When the heather was wet with dew.

The pipes, they play a mournful tune

As the wagon ventures past the farms

And it won't be long until shots are fired,

As the drums roll to present the arms.

Well the heather's wet this morning

And his promise has been filled

But the one they loved isn't really there,

Their bonnie soldier has been killed.

Yes, I hear the Bagpipes playing

As they once played for mine.

They'll get along as best they can

Just as if --- everything is fine.
