There came a time, I needed a home,
I was finally a man, out on my own!
I was a man, at least so I thought,
I was drunk and wild, with people I fought!
So I found a place, and rented a room,
Shared a man’s house, in the city of gloom!
In the beginning, it was all so much fun,
We drank and we drank, till the ceilings were spun!
This type of life, went on for a while,
Until one darkened night, would end all our guile!
I was drinking all day; they say so was he,
The shoving began, he ran with my key!
This night was yet over, as soon we would see…
I walked through a dark alley, in furious rage,
I’ll teach this man, who’s king of the cage!
Up to his house, I met a locked door,
With one swift kick, it fell to the floor!
He stood in the room, with bat in his hand,
I charged without fear, in drunken command!
I lay on the floor, now painted with red!
The blood was a flowing; it appeared I was dead!
My eyes opened slowly, head foggy you know,
The bat raised above me, to send my deathblow!
Then something happened, a neighbor walked in,
He coaxed the bat down, and dragged me with him!
All too soon, the ambulance came,
But me and my uncle, were never the same!
Looking back, who was to blame?
We both lived in sin, in hate, and in shame!
I haven’t seen him, in many long years,
Sometimes I think, and mask some deep fears!
Today I’m much different, I don’t know about him…
If comes a day, we meet once again,
I wonder just what, I might say to him then!
All I know, is often I pray,
That if we meet, this I would say:
“Uncle, dear uncle, I no longer mourn.
I love you through Jesus, no longer I’m torn!”
