My Own Love Affair

By Jeff Shumate © 2009

It’s a love affair within,

I want my baby back again!

It’s not over and I don’t care,

This is my own love affair!

Please release me—let me go,

If the yoke was broke, let me know!

Every time I said goodbye,

My skin began to cry!

The cells within my bone,

Leaped for freedom from their home!

My love affair within,

Wanted my baby back again!

In agony I lay,

Wishing to be reunited with her one day!

Twenty hours had then gone by,

Shaking hands exposed my lie!

My heart wanted her within,

I needed my baby once again!

It’s a love that tore my soul,

It was only Jesus who made me whole!

I know it’s been so long,

Since she had come and gone.

Lord I’m on my knees,

Grant me one thing please!

When I want her love again,

Quench that thirst from deep within!

Because back behind my mind,

Her terror waits with beauty’s blind!

Dear Lord keep open my eyes,

To the truth of her disguise!

Lord thank you for today,

You tore that yoke away!
