The Green Grass In Life

By Jeff Shumate © 2009

The grass seems greener, on the other side,

But love is there, where you now reside.

In a vision, looking beyond, to a grass so green,

Focusing the eyes; on an unreal thing,

So many pastures, have come and gone,

Once again, a pasture to you seems wrong.

Not always green, I will admit,

But it’s grass that’s real, where I will sit.

To grow,

Sometimes slow,

But always know, reality inevitably will make its show,

That’s the grass, that’s really real,

Not all can handle, life’s harsh appeal.

It’s up and down, brown and green…

There are hills and valleys, no even ground,

But it’s in them valleys, our soul is found.

When in the valley, looking to the top,

The hill seems long; will our travel stop?

The grass seems greener on the other side,

But consider hard, where you now reside.

When finally at the top, the valley looks so long,

The grass seems greener, but we could be wrong.

Enjoy the ride, the up and down,

There’s another hill, another valley, to yet be found.

The grass isn’t green, in life at all,

Just shades of colors, for our call,

In this life, go on we must,

Just remember, the grass you think is green,

May turn to dust.
