A poem about forgetting all the thoughts/worries that preoccupy you during the day and listening to yourself. There's a difference between THINKING and listening to your subconscious.
This is from last winter or spring, but it's something I find myself thinking about a lot.
Thanks!

Listen –

Some things

Are only heard

When all the rest are

Silent.

When lights turn off

In kitchen windows;

Figures fade

Into streetlight shadows

The sun departs

To fill the other

Continents with noise.

And, inside,

When lamps are dimming,

Storing daylight thoughts away,

And blackness comes

Suddenly,

Too dark to be frightening,

Too cold to be

comforting,

Too fast to be

Startling…

Only then can you hear

All the parts of you

Scared to emerge

Any other time,

All the thoughts and ideas,

Faceless otherwise.

Listen –

there’s more to be

heard than to

Think.
