A Work in Progress

Day 1:

One dreary afternoon I began to wonder. Wondering is what provokes thought and thought is something that we can scarcely find in our modern day life. All we worry about is getting from place to place. We spend no time wondering. The journey we take from place to place is not important, nor is the destination, and in between all that where does time for thinking even come in.

I was once told that I had to make something of myself in order to be successful. But is that really the meaning of success. Am I only successful if I am better or more accomplished than my peers? Is that really the purpose of this life? Do we really have a purpose? What is our meaning? If you can answer these questions I applaud you, but when you really get down to the bare details of what we call life, is there a firm definition of success to base our inferences upon? I can understand why you might think I’m some crazy hormonal teen who can’t really understand what the adult word holds, but believe me when I say I probably understand it better than you.

As you grow up you forget, and learn to forget things from your past. I’m sure you haven’t thought about what you used to call things before you knew their name. As a kid, and being constantly told what to do and what’s right and what’s wrong, I think about this at least once a week. My thoughts, as irrelevant as they are, are not stupid, nor ignorant, contrary to societies popular belief. I am, in fact, learning how to be what society wants me to be. They say I can be whatever I want, but is that really true?

I mean, one cannot just fly to the moon simply because they want to.
