THE LONER AND THE HYBRID

A series of episodes, written by Skyler Jensen

EPISODE ONE: HELEN'S MISTAKE

The scene starts out in an old tree, where Sparrow has just been born. Sparrow's mother and father are overjoyed about their newborn son, but Helen the eldest sibling, thinks otherwise, due to her being a very jealous chipmunk that always wants attention, even if it's for some stupid reason. She sees her newborn brother as a burden, rather than a positive addition to the family. She expresses a nasty look.

HELEN:

Hmpf! He doesn't look very special to me! Just look at him! He's an oversized baby!

HELEN'S MOTHER:

Helen! How can you say such things about your own brother?! Like it or not, he's here to stay, so get used to it, young lady!

HELEN:

But, mom!

HELEN'S FATHER:

That's enough, Helen. Go sit in the timeout corner, and think about what you've said. (points toward corner)

SPARROW:

(Cries)

HELEN'S MOTHER:

Now look at what you've done, Helen. You've upset your brother.

HELEN: I didn't do anything! Ugh! (stomps over to timeout corner)

HELEN'S MOTHER:

Shh, Sparrow, it's okay. Calm down, my son.

SPARROW:

(Stops crying)

HELEN'S MOTHER:

See, everything's fine, my son. Nothing to cry about.

SPARROW:

(Smiles and giggles)

HELEN:

(Sits in the corner, angry that Sparrow is getting all the attention) We'll see about that. (comes up with a cruel scheme) Hours pass, and everyone, including Sparrow is asleep, as the day ends. Helen proceeds with her scheme to get rid of Sparrow, for good.

HELEN:

(Grabs Sparrow, gently off out of his small bed, then carries him out of the old tree, deep into the woods, where he can never be found.) Now, you will no longer be a factor. (sets Sparrow on the ground, then scrambles back to the tree, but is shocked to only see a large vehicle parked in front of the tree)

LUMBERJACK 1:

How much you think this baby is going to make us?

LUMBERJACK 2:

I'd range it around a thousand or more!

LUMBERJACK 1:

We're going to be rich!

LUMBERJACK 3:

Would you two imbecile's shut up, and get to work!

LUMBERJACKS 1 & 2:

Yes, boss (in unison)

LUMBERJACK 3:

Hurry, before we draw any attention! Lumberjacks 1 & 2 grab something from the truck, then the sound of chainsaws erupt. Helen immediately gets scared, and wonders what she should do, then realizes her mother and father were goners, unless she could get them alerted in time, but if she spoke, she'd probably get harmed by one of the lumberjacks, so she remains quiet, as she watches her home get cut down by the lumberjacks.

HELEN:

What have I done?! Helen realizes she's done a terrible thing, and rushes into the wood to retrieve her brother, but has trouble finding him, until she hears his cries. Sparrow! Sparrow, where are you!? Helen follows Sparrow's cries, until she finds him on the ground, crying.

SPARROW:

(Cries)

HELEN:

I'm so sorry, brother. I'm sorry. (starts to cry, comforting her brother) It's just you and me now.

SPARROW:

(Stops crying, and stares at his sister, who was now his caretaker for the rest of his life)
