Summary

I wrote this poem when I was 16. One of my friends, Joey, died in a car accident only 3 weeks before he was to graduate from high school. The sad thing is, if the car that ran him off the road had stopped to help the police officer get Joey out of the car, he probably would have made it. But the police officer was not able to get him out of the car before it was completely engulfed in flames. And no, they never caught them.

In Memory of Joey Crockett
October 16, 1980 – April 25, 1999
Three weeks before his high school graduation

You were here one day
And gone the next.

Taken from our lives
In the blink of an eye.

When we heard of your death,
It was a shock to us all.

We didn’t want to believe,
But we had no choice.

At your funeral,
We said our last good-bye.

It was hard to do,
But something we knew that had to be done.

Not a day goes by,
That we don’t think of you.

We miss you Joey.
