The stars are hidden by the rain.
I look up above on a night in spring.
The clouds are all consuming.

I hunt for sparkles all in vain,
But not a twinkle the night sky does bring
The stars are hidden by the rain.

It is my dearest search, my bane
I scour the heavens ‘til my eyes sting.
The clouds are all consuming.

I seek a scintillating twinkling chain.
I see not belt, no dipper nor luminescent ring.
The stars are hidden by the rain.

My neck, my heart, my soul aches in pain.
My tears flood, for I have gained nothing.
The clouds are all consuming.

The drive to search begins to wane
No happy discovery does dark night bring.
The stars are hidden by the rain.
The clouds are all consuming.
