She Withdraw the manila envelope from her desktop paying close attention not to crease the edges; she wanted the letter to arrive in pristine condition. As far as Hannah was concerned this may be the most important piece of mail she would ever send. She carefully applied her favorite lipstick to her plump and moistened lips; purple passion no.14 and with a very deliberate pucker she sealed the envelope with a kiss. For extra measure she gave the envelope a final once over with a quick spritz of floral scented perfume. The felt tip pen trembled with anticipation as she eagerly began to address the envelope to him. Hannah had recently read a book on the teachings of calligraphy and she was determined to perfect her newfound skill for the benefit of this crucial letter! Each shaky pen stroke found her more anxious than the previous stoke. With maddening frustration she began to perspire and found herself reluctantly tearing up the envelope and the contents of the letter inside. This time with ultimate determination and persistence, Hannah began to rewrite: My Dearest Rudy,

As I sit here in complete silence alone without the comforts of your gentle kiss, I realize I am nothing without you. I have no knowledge of your whereabouts only your place of employment. Why did you leave me with no goodbyes, no promises of returning to me? I send this letter in hopes that you are well and that your are planning for the perfect occasion to resume our joyous situation. It was only two months ago you pledged your deep admiration and love for me. Do you remember our day at the lake, the picnic, the charming breeze, the enticing kisses and the playful tenderness of our flirting? I hold onto that day in my mind believing in your prompt homecoming. As i close my eyes a vision of you is all that consumes me. Your tall and masculine frame, rich and wanderlust eyes searching desperately for me just as I am here aching for you. I know your work takes you to far away places and that your schedule is grueling and demanding in the entertainment business but it does not hinder my devotion to you. They say you are the ultimate object of male sexuality; every woman's fantasy. I know they must be trying to lure you, those temptresses, always following you wherever you go. Yet I know in my heart I am the one you have reserved your heart to and that you would never stray form our intense bond. Until you return to my arms I will sit here with patience dreaming of our sweet reunion. May you find the strength to go on with the redundancy of everyday life until you are sent back to me where you are meant to be. Your soulmate awaits.......

Lovingly and devotedly, Hannah

Hannah confidently smiled at her beautiful admission of love for Rudy. With all that said; she was certain it would bring him home to the comfort and safety of her arms . She folded the letter being precise and meticulous about its apperance as nothing was too perfect for her dear Rudy. She reached again for her two most loved possessions they allowed her to keep on hand, her perfume and lipstick. Just as she was preparing to fasten the envelope the door to her room thundered open and with poignant authority Mrs. Mooring, the night aide, appeared. Hannah looked at her with overwhelming contempt and sorrow in her eyes. She knew this meant another desperate attempt for her mail to get out of the building had failed again with Mrs. Mooring's discovery. \"Time for your meds Hannah, no arguments tonight!\" She walked over to Hannah's desk pushed up against the window for reading light and snatched the envelope from Hannah's grasp. Mrs. Mooring guided her spectacles closer to her eyes with her right index finger so that she could study the writing on the envelope. She sighed with disappointment and shook her head in defeat as she read the envelope:

Mr. Rudolph Valentino MGM Studios 10250 Constellation Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90067

It was the return address that Mrs. Mooring found so disheartening.

Mental Health Facilities of Washington Hannah Peters/ Resident Room,414 10024 24th ave NW Seattle,WA 98107

After seven long years as a resident here, there had been no change in Hannah's delusions. She was still completely adamant that Rudolph Valentino, hollywood legend and silent film star, was her lover. She insisted she was the only woman in the world meant for him. Somehow her illness had consumed her when she became transfixed on his images from movies of the past. She had no concept of reality, that in actuality, Rudolph Valentino had died in 1925 long before she was ever born.
