The phone rang

I froze in my bed

I couldn’t believe

The words that she said

We need to get there

No not now

Please don’t say it

I’m not ready, no not today, no not now

It was bright

It was sunny

The road was clear

It felt wrong, so wrong it felt so funny

I drove so fast

But I just don’t recall

The people the traffic

What to make of it all

I didn’t want to know

Then I was there in a blink of an eye

I didn’t want to see

I just sat and listened and started to cry

My sisters arrived

We looked, we stared

We couldn’t believe

We were finally all there

But there was our dad

That needed us more

He was weak he was leaving

He needed us to be strong but it felt so raw

What do you do?

What do you say?

How do you deal?

With a day like today

We found the answers

We didn’t need to be told

You sit and you talk

You love and you hold

Dad left so gently to be with our mum

It was a beautiful summer’s day

And I’m so happy now

We were all there to help him on his way
