A tale that will send shivers through your bones.

“If a student falls and no one chooses to hear, do they make a sound?”~Shane Koyczan

She didn’t; she never made a sound. She sat in the back of class, turned in all her work, passed all the tests. She opted out of group work and presentations. She was the first one in the door and the last one out. She carried around journals that she wrote in. I thought she was taking notes, but, in reality, she was writing.

She was writing how the sun kisses the east and how the trees  breathe. She wrote her sorrows away until they were written into her skin, not with a pen but a blade whose ink was made of blood. She wrote her flaws and her hatred like she would in her book. No one knew the story she wrote because she always wore a hoodie; she never made a sound, sat in the back of class.

And now her sorrows, all written into her skin with cold metal, have led her here- a cold dark place, just like her mind. Only now she’s physically there: never again making a sound, and never again having someone read the story bored onto her arms. Just the story that’s written into her headstone.
