Sleep eludes the restless mind
Of those who have forgotten

The taste of a smile

On their lips

And the sound of laughter

In their ears

So many cold dark nights

Spent silently withering in pain

Tears cascading soundlessly

For only in solitude

May they weep

For their broken inner child

When people ask them

Why they're so tired

They stumble for an answer

No one can ever know

Of their sleepless nights

Spent in agony

We are the children

Of the darkest winter night

Our only hope left

Someday someone will come

And close our bloodshot eyes

Forever
