If only I hadn't discovered this absurd obscurity,
How could the shadow engulf the embers oddly effortlessly,
Snuffing away the glow?

Or was the shimmer always a mirage?

If only I hadn't clouded my eyes to the umbra,
What could've become of the air surrounding if only I had peered closer,
And yet, perhaps these are simply unfamiliar grounds upon the tongue;
A poison only potent through possession.

Haunting words still do linger,
If only I hadn't borne witness to this penumbra.

If I'm fortunate, this is only an eclipse.
