Paint a smile and wear it well
Hide the depths of your own hell
Dare to dream but remember, please
Dreams turn to nightmares with such ease

Cherish every breath you take, and every beat of your heart
One day without warning, it will be ripped apart
Turn your cheek, look away, run and try to hide
Ignore that aching pain, searing through you inside

It's easy to fly; just zoom out and drift away
Then come crashing down hard, and have to face the day
Life isn't a fairytale; there is no happy ending
But wear your smile, hide your pain, and just keep on pretending

Laugh to keep from crying, though the cuts are raw and deep
You can't miss something that was never yours to keep
Put on that brave smile, through the good times and the bad
Even though you know you can't miss something that you never had.
