Sadness is gone
Depression sets in
Happiness has lost its luster
Laughter, its sheen
When all emotion has dies out
You have made me numb

Too short. One awesome thing about the English language is that we have an alphabet, unlike, say, Japanese, which is a syllabary (therefore they can get away with haikus that sound cool!).
Poetry in English is all about the flourish, the extra, the figurative. To truly convey something effectively, you must have nigh on PERFECT diction (something which is pretty hard), or you just have to add more.
There is a lot to say, but this doesn't say much.
