I carry on this one way romance

because I'm a selfish lover.

Born of flesh and blood.

Despite my efforts

to be of an intellect

unmatched by man.

I turn to you

in my times of sorrow.

Yet I withhold from you

my joy, maybe,

'cause I don't get much of that,

and need to keep it

for myself.

Don't let him brand you.

I remember when I wore that hat.

I hope you're not as trapped as me,

'cause you are my freedom from that fate.

I feel the lure of the East coast

I feel it rising in my veins.

With every second that goes by,

I know I'm coming home again.

Another night with

another near stranger.

What did I do

to make myself

so useable?
