Unsent Letter To An Old Friend
I just went for a job interview near that place where you first worked as a junior clerk.
Do you remember that night-club that you swore you would never go back to anymore because of all the drunken guys that tried to score ... well it is definitely no more ; it got squished by an enormous apartment block with a trendy coffee shop on the ground floor.
Remember that burger shop where Dave always went back for more ... well it is now an empty lot with graffiti scribbled along the walls.
Guess what ... McDonald's is no more ; replaced by an international bank which looks so swank rising up those century old stairs.
What is it with this place and all its banks ; while so many small shops are now for rent ?
Why does this place feel such a disgrace ?
In a way I am glad you are not here anymore because this is now not how we spent our youth ... it is just a poor excuse for social inequality abuse which you could never stand.
That column you use to giggle at because it looked like an erect penis is now covered in white pigeon crap ... you would laugh even more.
Our bench is still waiting there ... though the fountain’s water evidently is all spent.
Our initials are still there ... though the heart has deformed under layers of different shades of paint.
I guess this place is no longer full of grace.
Well, well I will be damned, that old hobo is still standing there , though he looks much worse for wear , and he still swears that the lord will come.
