We are living today in a world full of chaos. War is everywhere – nation against nation in the name of nationalism; brothers against brothers in the name of ideological affiliation. Worse, people kill people in the name of religion and race. Human lives are no longer precious as they should be. While every nation’s wealth consumed in wars and destructions, many people can barely live a decent life – no adequate food, water, clothing, shelter, medicine, and education. Shamelessly, their leaders live like kings in palaces. Adding to the chaos, greedy businessmen destroy our environment just to make profit, oblivious to the plight of the future generation who will suffer from their shortsighted actions. Forest razed, rivers polluted, mountains denuded, oceans raped, and the air poisoned. Nature’s beauty is slowly but surely going to their graves because of man’s “avarice”. Politicians on the other hand always promise us to the promise land. But they too are to blame for their hands are tied with those who funded their ambitions. Political investors whose main goal is to protect their vested interest – from war machines to oil in foreign lands – are the ones that really run a nation. Most worrisome, families, which are the most important component of our society, have disintegrated. Broken marriages and materialism deprive children of emotional foundation leading them to drug addiction, violent games and Internet obsessions, school dropouts, unwanted pregnancies, petty crimes, and etc. But sad to say most of us pretend to be blind and deaf to this reality. We have contributed to the destruction of this world by doing nothing. We pretend that we do not see the tears of the crying parents whose sons were killed in war. We pretend that we do not hear the moans of the hungry children in impoverished countries. We pretend that we do not feel the pain of our dying environment. We pretend that we do not know the emptiness of our leader’s promises. We pretend that our families are not failing. How long do we have to pretend? Do we have to wait until nothing is left? All of these inhuman and unacceptable actions are all around us and they all destroy the significance of life, this is why I want to make a difference. By achieving my dream of becoming a CPA Lawyer, I may appeal to the government the issue of divorces and the multiple youth problems. In my field, I will try to be fair and this may encourage other people to follow. I am not saying that I can change this world but I want to make a difference because I am a part of it. So frail my voice can be in the wilderness, but by studying hard and become a good citizen, I can be a humble model and move others to do the same. Hopefully, when each of us makes a difference, this world will once again become a great place to live in.
