I saw it all in the left-turn lane

I saw Chapman lay a turd on Lennon's shrine

I saw the Bolognese School in the left-turn lane

Bloody common butcher shops in black and russet

Pious turned-up eyes and red velvet death

And squinting broken light

I saw The Massacre of the Innocents in the left turn lane

It's rough in the left-turn lane

You can't go right and do the right thing

You can't go straight along the straight and narrow

You can only go left - into the Devil's eye

I saw a guy with a sign in the left-turn lane

"A ride to ____ and a buck for some food"

I saw a bum with silver dreadlocks

With a thick woollen coat, and a tumour-like growth

Of grimy greasy plastic bags growing round his neck

Strange to see a bum in Suburbia

I saw it all in the left-turn lane

Where bumpers kiss

And strangers meet but never miss

It's all in the left-turn lane

‘My eyes were full of hate' in the left-turn lane

The poet's bane

The ____‘s shame

The left-turn lane

The left-turn lane

I saw it all in the left-turn lane
