A guy makes the wrong move while in a drug deal...

I look up at the bright sky, through my squinted eyes I see vultures circle. I’m afraid that it might be the end. No help is coming and I don’t think my body can handle anymore pain. It’s already been an hour since I was shot and now I might die out in this Utah wasteland. Just wanted to make some quick cash on this drug deal, but I guess this is what I get for trying to bump up the price in the middle of it. Now I’m going to go out, alone while the buzzards eat away.

It gets harder to breathe, I guess on the account of my lungs filling up with blood. I try to sit up but I fall back down, blurting out a scream as I hit the hard ground. As I land I notice that the ground from under my back is wet. I now lay in a dark puddle of blood as the sun reflects off of it. How much blood have I lost? Trying not to focus on the massive puddle of my own liquid I check where I was shot.

I feel the burning pain from where the entry wounds are, at least they have cooled down. I can still remember how painful it felt as the hot steel bullets entered my body. I try and rip off some material from my jacket and place on the entry wounds, trying to stop anymore blood from oozing out. But only after a few minutes the pieces of ripped cloth can’t hold back anymore, so I begin to bleed once more.

As the pain flares up again I try to take my mind off it and look around, to see if there is anything I can use to signal for help. I’m in a ditch off a road in the desert, my car is a couple distanced feet, to far to crawl, plus I think the junkie slashed the tires.

The sad realization hits me as a black silhouette of a bird crosses over my body. Panic enters my head and I start breathing harder, my stomach expands and contracts as I try to gulp in more air. I choke on some of my blood and begin coughing. Once I spit out some of the slimy blood mucus combination that was in my throat I look back to the sky.

My heartbeat begins to grow louder like it’s right next to my ear, oh God is it slowing down, is this what’s it like to die? Tears begin to roll down my eyes, I don’t want to die, not now please later, take me later. I begin seeing white flashes; no it’s the end, NO! I also start seeing red flashes, why red? These flashes keep changing, red then white, red then white, what is happing? The echo of a siren replaces the sound of my slowing heartbeat. I feel vibrations on the ground and I feel fingers pressed against my throat, I hear the words “We have a live one!” A face replaces the sky and kind words enter my ears, “you’re going to be alright sir”.
