I cried,

and punched

my pillow.

How could

she leave me

here by myself?

I ran mile

after mile,

not really noticing.

The tears stung

my eyes

and I sat.

I thought about

the times when

we had played

together on the lawn.

And how we

had stolen some

chocolate at eleven

at night.

How we had

made up a story

to explain the

loud thump I

had made falling

out of my

makeshift bed.

There had been

a cloud of

sadness over me,

since she departed.

I remember her

hand, warm and

soft in mine,

as she left.

Until a new

friend came up.

Kym was her name.

We both were

shy and quiet,

good mannered

and hardworking.

We did the same

things, her and

I, as I had done

with my old friend.

I remember her

so clearly.

The time we stayed

up until 4 am

on a school night.

Her smile and eyes,

so kind and

I still cry

when I look

at the picture

of us in

matching clothes,

arms around each other.

I wear the bracelet

she gave me

for my birthday,

as to not let

her slip away.

I will remember

her always,

and how she

changed my life.

Thank you, Kym,

for your kindness

and companionship,

for lifting the

cloud of sadness

off my heart,

and for bringing

the pure joy

friendship back

into my life.
