Should sing the soul of earth the sacred sonnets of your lips

Oh angel trapped on earth, we long to calm the choir’s tired kiss

With hands so lush, that ring like lyres, and pull the sun from tired eyes

You wrap such lonesome devils in the feathered tendrils of your wings

And lay such loathsome ogres down to sleep

With lullabies and golden lips

In shining streams where sugar seeps

And rip the thorns from lions’ paws with fingers drenched in chardonnay

And blanket tired, bitter snakes in ivory sheets and satin shade

At once, such church bells I would ring to hark your chilling, shimmering touch

Upon my chest, where learning love my heart’s forgotten how to hush
