I am from sunlit kitchen blinds

From the worn leather couch and torn Tolkien books

I am from stenciled chili peppers

And a California King Bed to hide away in

I am from the camera lens

Through which I see the world

My own way

I am from the towering redwood

Out of place, but somehow belonging

In my front yard

I am from backyard explorations

And paper wasps under red eves

I am from blossoming almond trees

Like scoops of pink and white ice cream

I am from asphalt race tracks and bruised shins

From Christmas cookies for the mailman

I am from music springing from the staff

And “which way to the stage?”

I am from Dawn and Michael

And curls tumbling from my shoulders

I am from French Acadia

From sand between my toes and salt in my hair

I am from French toast bake

Sips of champagne and freeze-dried lasagna

I am from photos that flow from my camera

Spilling stories of thoughts, friends, and family

Moments of time stood still

Painting a picture

Of me
