Hi, my name is Halo and I stand alone. I have a rare condition called "Alice In Wonderland Syndrome" Sounds silly right? Well its not. It drove me into a world that only exists in my mind. AIWS (My condition) causes me to perceive things differently. Ever since I could walk I would plan my trip to the sun. Its not to far right?

To the Sun

They say that life is the greatest journey you will ever come by. I agree with that, some people don’t understand though. What I believe that quote is saying is something far more complex than what it’s meant.  What I believe is that some people have tougher journeys than regular people. I have Alice in Wonderland Syndrome or AIWS.

AIWS is a disorder in which I have a distorted sense of time and space. I don’t really believe that. I believe that I’m just like anyone else. I’m normal I just have my challenges. I’m okay though, I really am.

I’m scared of my disorder. What some people don’t know is that AIWS is a very rare disorder. This is my story of my very unusual, kind of crazy, bizarre life.

I can hardly take it any more. The words you will never be anything trail in my mind like a train. I will be something, I promise. The sun will cure me of my disorder. I know it will. When I go to the sun it will be magical. I will feel better and be happier. The sun is always alone but always shines.

I peer out my window looking at the sun. It’s not far, just a couple of yards away. I smile; it makes me happy to think of the sun. I’m always happy when I read about the sun and the wonders that it brings.  I open my book up to page 47, the sun. I stare at pictures of the beautiful orange ball known as the sun. I read about the part that says the sun is very hot, I’ll make sure to wear light clothing.

I prepare for my trip, I have water, food, and shelter. The shelter is for if I stay the night. I can’t wait to tell Mrs.Smither that I’m going to the sun. She’ll love it. I’ve never told anyone about my sun secret. I don’t know what their response would be, but I know I can trust Mrs. Smither.

The next day I put all my supplies in my backpack. “Bye Mom” I said as I walked out the door. We only live across the street from the school so it was an easy walk. For water I brought a canteen with water in it. For food I brought an apple and a couple of packs of crackers. For shelter I brought a foldable tent that is about the size of a piece of cardboard when it’s folded. Perfect.

“Mrs.Smither” I say as I walk into the classroom. “Yes?” She says. “I’m going to the sun” I say with excitement. A sad look appears on her face. “What is it?” I say with panic in my voice. “You can’t go to the sun” She says. I start to cry. That’s about where I break down. “I’m so sorry Halo,” she says. “It’s okay” I say, “God will cure me”
